The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, of attempting to deceive investigators in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. According to the forensic report of the polygraph test, Dr. Ghosh deliberately sought to mislead the CBI. India Today has obtained exclusive access to the federal agency’s remand note, which indicates that Dr. Ghosh showed no intention of registering a First Information Report (FIR) in this high-profile case that has sparked nationwide outrage and protests.
This development comes two days after Dr. Ghosh and a senior police officer, Abhijit Mondal, were arrested by the CBI for delaying the filing of the FIR and mishandling evidence in the case. The remand note states that Dr. Ghosh underwent a layered voice analysis (LVA) and polygraph test as part of the investigation.
The CBI remand note mentions, “As per the report of CFSL (forensic report), his (Ghosh) version has been found deceptive on certain important issues relating to this case.” It further notes that Dr. Ghosh did not intend to file an FIR in the matter, despite having consulted with a lawyer. Ultimately, it was the vice-principal of RG Kar Hospital who registered the complaint, framing the incident as a suicide.
The CBI’s report also highlights that Dr. Ghosh had been in communication with Abhijit Mondal since 10:03 am on August 9, the day the trainee doctor’s semi-naked body was discovered in the seminar hall. Despite being informed of the incident at 9:58 am, Dr. Ghosh did not immediately go to the hospital and allegedly attempted to downplay the rape.
Last month, the Calcutta High Court set a three-week deadline for the CBI to submit a progress report on their ongoing investigation into the Kolkata rape-murder case. The federal agency is expected to present this report tomorrow.
Previously, Dr. Ghosh was arrested by the CBI in a separate case involving alleged financial fraud at RG Kar Hospital and underwent a polygraph test in that investigation as well.
In connection with the current case, Kolkata Police arrested Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, on August 10, one day after the 31-year-old trainee doctor’s body was found. The autopsy report suggested that the victim was brutally raped before being murdered.
