In a significant step towards strengthening the food processing ecosystem, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority held a detailed meeting with a senior official of Japan-based Kewpie Corporation to discuss the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Yamuna City.
The meeting was chaired by YEIDA chief executive officer R.K. Singh, with additional chief executive officer S.K. Bhatia also in attendance. Discussions focused on the proposed investment, land requirements and long-term industrial collaboration.
Founded in 1919, Kewpie Corporation is a globally recognised food processing company, best known for its egg-yolk-based mayonnaise and distinctive umami flavour profile. The company holds around 60 percent market share in Japan and operates across more than 79 countries worldwide. Over the years, Kewpie has diversified into sauces, fruit jams, processed foods and nutritional solutions.
During the interaction, the company representative highlighted Kewpie’s “Make in Local” strategy aimed at strengthening supply chains in high-growth Asia-Pacific markets. Yamuna City is being considered as a strategic hub for local manufacturing to cater to both domestic and international demand.
As per the proposal, Kewpie plans to invest approximately ₹200 crore and requires 8 to 10 acres of land within YEIDA’s industrial parks to set up a modern food processing plant. The proposed facility would significantly enhance the company’s footprint in the Indian market while supporting export-oriented production.
YEIDA officials presented details of the region’s infrastructure, including expressway connectivity, logistics advantages and proximity to upcoming aviation facilities. The Japanese delegation expressed strong interest in the industrial ecosystem and confirmed that a formal proposal would soon be placed before Kewpie’s board.
Following the meeting, the visiting official conducted site inspections of YEIDA’s industrial parks to assess potential locations. The visit concluded on an optimistic note, with expectations of job creation, industrial growth and stronger alignment with the “Make in India” initiative.
