Indian track and field athletes are gearing up for a busy season as they chase qualification for the Paris Olympics. Following Tuesday’s Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium, the focus is now on upcoming competitions to secure coveted spots for the Olympic Games.
With the Paris Olympics qualification deadline looming, athletes are intensifying their efforts in the domestic athletics season. The recent Grand Prix event in Bengaluru, while lacking major surprises, marked the beginning of a crucial phase for Indian athletes aiming for Olympic berths.
As the competition heats up, athletes are eyeing prominent events like the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition and Indian GP 2 scheduled in the coming weeks. For many, including jumpers like Shaili Singh in women’s long jump and Eldhose Paul, Praveen Chithravel, and Abdulla Aboobacker in men’s triple jump, these competitions are pivotal in their quest for Paris qualification.
Shaili Singh’s performance in Bengaluru, though falling short of the automatic qualification mark, showcased her potential. Despite facing challenges, including injuries and inconsistent form, the young athlete continues to strive for excellence. Similarly, triple jumpers Eldhose Paul and Praveen Chithravel are aiming to surpass the Paris qualifying mark after their recent competitions.
Other athletes, such as javelin thrower Annu Rani and hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, are also gearing up for the season ahead. Annu Rani, training under renowned coach Werner Daniels in Europe, aims to build on her surprise gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Meanwhile, Jyothi Yarraji, training in Spain, looks to capitalize on her impressive performances and secure her Paris Olympics qualification through rankings.
As the clock ticks towards the Paris Olympics, Indian athletes are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of Olympic glory. With determination and resilience, they are ready to seize every opportunity to represent their country on the global stage.
