Diego Maradona’s children petition Argentine court to relocate his body. The children of legendary footballer Diego Maradona have formally requested a court in Argentina to approve the relocation of their father’s remains from a private cemetery to a mausoleum being constructed in Buenos Aires. They presented their plea to the court in San Isidro, expressing the desire for Maradona’s body to be moved to the “Memorial del Diez,” a mausoleum currently under development in the Puerto Madero neighborhood of the capital city.

In their letter to the court, Maradona’s heirs highlighted the importance of the mausoleum as a safer and more accessible location for fans from across the globe to pay tribute to the revered Argentine football icon. The mausoleum project aims to provide a dignified space for admirers to honor Maradona’s legacy, particularly considering his immense influence on Argentine football and culture.

Currently interred in the Jardín de Bella Vista private cemetery in San Miguel, Maradona’s potential relocation requires court approval due to ongoing legal proceedings involving 8 medical professionals implicated in his pre-death care. The children assured the court that all necessary examinations had been conducted, emphasizing the need for secure and confidential arrangements for the transfer.

The initiative to construct the “Memorial del Diez” was announced by Maradona’s children on October 30, coinciding with what would have been his 63rd birthday. The project, undertaken in collaboration with national and municipal authorities, as well as the Puerto Madero corporation, aims to establish a fitting tribute to Maradona’s unparalleled contributions to Argentine football history. Maradona’s illustrious career included leading Argentina to victory in the 1986 FIFA World Cup and subsequent involvement as the national team’s coach in 2010.
