Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain is ready to embrace a new challenge as she prepares to compete in the women’s 75kg event at the Paris Olympics, following the removal of the 69kg division from the programme. The 26-year-old, who clinched a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, sees this transition as a liberating experience, bringing her closer to her natural weight range and relieving her from the constant battle to meet weight requirements.

Lovlina Borgohain expressed her readiness to adapt to the changes, highlighting the positive experience of moving up to the 75kg category. “Transitioning to the 75kg category has been a good experience. Now I don’t need to monitor my weight to the same extent,” she stated, emphasizing the flexibility and ease this shift offers her in preparing for the upcoming games.

Despite the challenges posed by competing in a heavier division, Lovlina Borgohain is optimistic about her prospects in Paris. Having won the 75kg world championship gold in New Delhi last year and securing a silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, she is determined to make her mark on the Olympic stage once again. Lovlina Borgohain believes that this weight class aligns better with her natural body frame and attributes, enhancing her confidence in achieving success at the Olympics.

With the aspiration of becoming the first Indian boxer to win two Olympic medals, Lovlina Borgohain is driven by her unwavering commitment and belief in her abilities. She acknowledges the significance of this opportunity not only for her personal achievements but also for inspiring future generations of athletes in India. Lovlina Borgohain aims to leave a lasting legacy by motivating young boys and girls across the country to pursue sports and uphold national pride through their performances.

While cricket remains a national obsession in India, Lovlina Borgohain recognizes the potential of her success in Paris to elevate the profile of boxing and sports in general. She envisions her achievements resonating beyond the boxing ring, serving as a catalyst for widespread inspiration and participation in sports across India.

As she continues her preparations for the Paris Olympics, Lovlina Borgohain remains focused and determined to make her mark in the history books, aiming to inspire a new generation of athletes and leave behind a legacy of excellence and perseverance.
