In a forceful intervention at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India called out Pakistan for abusing international platforms to push a misleading narrative while ignoring its own record of grave human rights violations and sponsorship of terrorism. The statement, delivered by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, came during the Council’s open debate on Children and Armed Conflict (CAC), and offered a strong rebuttal to Pakistan’s accusations.
India rebukes Pakistan’s deflection tactics at UN forum
Ambassador Harish began by highlighting how Pakistan has consistently misused the UNSC forum to spread misinformation against India. He condemned Pakistan’s “nefarious agenda” and attempts to cast aspersions on UN processes instead of addressing the abuses taking place within its own territory.
He pointed out that the Secretary-General’s report on Children and Armed Conflict had cited grave violations against children in Pakistan. These included targeted attacks on girls’ schools, health workers, and civilians in border regions, particularly in areas adjoining Afghanistan. According to the report, Pakistani military operations have resulted in cross-border shelling and air strikes that led to casualties among Afghan children.
Harish emphasized that Pakistan’s actions not only violate international human rights norms but also directly contradict the principles the UNSC seeks to uphold under the CAC agenda.
Reference to recent terror attacks and India’s firm response
Citing the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 Indian tourists were killed by terrorists believed to be trained or supported by Pakistan, Harish said, “The world has not forgotten these savage, targeted attacks.” He referenced the UNSC’s April 25 press statement that called for holding the perpetrators and sponsors accountable.
India’s envoy also mentioned the country’s response under “Operation Sindoor” conducted on May 7. These strikes targeted nine terrorist infrastructure locations across the border, in a manner India described as “non-escalatory, proportionate, and focused.” Harish highlighted that individuals killed in the operation were given state funerals in Pakistan, reinforcing the claim of Islamabad’s continued patronage of terrorism.
Ambassador Harish further criticized Pakistan’s shelling of Indian border villages in May 2025, which resulted in civilian casualties. He labelled Pakistan’s attempt to lecture others at the UN after such incidents as “grossly hypocritical.”
In closing remarks, he reiterated India’s unambiguous position on Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the region “has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” despite what he termed as “lies and falsehoods” spread by Pakistan.
India’s strong statement at the UNSC reflects its determination to counter misinformation on international platforms while underscoring the need for accountability in cases of cross-border terrorism and child rights abuses. The address also reaffirms India’s stance on national sovereignty and zero tolerance for terrorism.
