In a significant development, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V Muraleedharan is all set for an official visit to Mauritius starting today till November 2nd, 2023. The timing couldn’t be more fitting, as this visit coincides with the 189th Anniversary of the arrival of Indentured Labourers in Mauritius, a historic moment that continues to shape the ties between the two nations.
MoS V. Muraleedharan’s itinerary is packed with crucial engagements aimed at strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius. High-level meetings with Mauritian leaders will take center stage, addressing a spectrum of regional and bilateral matters, reinforcing the already robust partnership.
The visit will kick off with the inauguration of two game-changing development projects. First up, the Henrietta 8 MW Solar Power Plant, a symbol of India’s commitment to green energy and sustainable growth in Mauritius. This initiative aligns perfectly with India’s ‘SAGAR’ vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and is poised to boost the island nation’s renewable energy sector.
Next on the agenda is the unveiling of a state-of-the-art Sports Complex, made possible through Indian Grant assistance. This facility will be a catalyst for sports development and cultural exchange, promoting a more active and healthy Mauritius.
In a momentous leap towards space collaboration, MoS V. Muraleedharan will also oversee the signing of an MOU for the joint development and launch of an Earth Observation satellite for Mauritius. This partnership will harness the potential of space technology to drive advancements in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and disaster management, among other areas.
Further, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, a joint commemorative postage stamp will be unveiled to underscores the enduring friendship and cooperation shared by India and Mauritius.
Significantly, Mauritius holds a pivotal role as India’s maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). MoS Muraleedharan’s visit is poised to strengthen the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties that underpin this special partnership.
