Lucknow/Jewar, February 22, 2026
The Jewar region under Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has emerged as a symbol of India’s semiconductor ambition. The DDIC OSAT unit of India Chip Private Limited marks a decisive step in India’s path toward technological self-reliance and global supply chain participation.

India Chip Private Limited is a 60:40 joint venture between HCL Technologies and Foxconn Technology Group, with an investment of over ₹3,700 crore. The state-of-the-art DDIC OSAT unit is expected to become operational by 2028. The plant will manufacture display driver chips for smartphones, laptops, automobile systems, and industrial electronics. With a processing capacity of 20,000 wafers per month, it will meet the growing domestic demand and reduce India’s import dependence.
The project will generate over 3,500 direct and indirect jobs. Local supply chains will develop, and global partnerships will be attracted. HCL and Foxconn’s collaboration emphasizes innovation, precision, and adherence to global manufacturing standards, contributing significantly to India’s self-reliance in the semiconductor supply chain.
This is India’s first display driver OSAT facility. Until now, the domestic production of DDIC chips used in mobile, TV, laptop, and automobile displays was limited. The unit will reduce import dependence and strengthen local manufacturing. Experts say it will enhance India’s role in the global supply chain.
YEIDA region, already known for logistics and aerospace investments, is now set to become a high-tech manufacturing cluster with the entry of the semiconductor industry. The project is expected to contribute approximately ₹45,000 crore annually to India’s GDP.
The unit will provide advanced technology employment opportunities to local youth. Centers of excellence, research labs, and simulation labs will be established to promote innovation in chip design and testing. Special training programs with local universities and technical institutes will strengthen the skill-based industrial ecosystem in the state.
The India Chip project is a strong example of implementing Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Self-reliance in the semiconductor sector is critical not only economically but strategically. This initiative positions Uttar Pradesh as a leading semiconductor destination and marks a milestone toward India’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ goal, symbolizing technical pride and industrial confidence.
