Shimla, 10 September : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi declare the tragedy caused by rain in Himachal Pradesh a ‘national disaster’. He has also urged giving a special economic package to the state to bring it back on track.
CM Sukhu meets President Murmu, discusses state’s issues
On Saturday, Chief Minister Sukhu participated in the dinner organised by President Draupadi Murmu in honour of the guests of the G-20 summit at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed with him issues related to the interests of the state. Sukhu gave detailed information to the Prime Minister about the damage caused by the disaster caused by heavy rains in the state and called upon him to declare the tragedy in the state a ‘national disaster’.
More than 400 killed, 13,000 houses damaged in Himachal rains
The Chief Minister said that in the last two months, due to heavy rains, landslides, and floods in the state, more than four hundred people have lost their lives and more than 13 thousand houses have been damaged, due to which thousands of families have become homeless. He said that due to this natural disaster, the state has suffered a loss of more than Rs 12 thousand crores.
PM Modi assures to consider demands sympathetically
The Chief Minister told the Prime Minister that the state needs an economic package from the Centre to recover from this disaster. In view of the unprecedented loss caused in the state due to the disaster, the Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister that, on the lines of the disasters in Bhuj and Kedarnath, Himachal should also be given a special relief package. Prime Minister Modi listened carefully to the issues of state interest raised by Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and assured to consider the demands of the state sympathetically.
