Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], November 1 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee celebrated her 47th Kali Puja and offered prayers to the Goddesses at her residence in Kolkata. She said that over the years she has turned to Maa Kali for strength and guidance.

In a post on X, CM Mamata Banerjee said, “This is the 47th Kali Pujo at my residence. Over the years, through life’s joys and sorrows, I have turned to Maa Kali for strength and guidance. It is a bond rooted in faith, trust, and deep devotion. This year, like every year, I fasted through the day and prepared bhog for Bhavatarini Maa Kali, hoping to honour her divine feminine energy that I believe sustains and empowers us all.”

She extended her gratitude to everyone who joined in offering the prayers on Thursday.

“As I offered my prayers, I asked Maa to bless every one of you with happiness, health, and prosperity. I convey my gratitude to everyone who joined in today, from friends to colleagues to the many well-wishers who are like family. Shubho Kali Pujo to all!” she further added.

Kolkata was decked up for Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations with bustling markets filled with shoppers buying sweets, diyas, decorations, and festive clothing.

On the occasion of Kali Puja, Kolkata’s Park Street was decorated with LED lights.

Kali Puja is a very significant festival for Hindus, especially in the state of West Bengal.

This celebration centres around the worship of Shakti, or Goddess Kali, symbolizing the triumph of Good over Evil. Also referred to as Shyama Puja, Goddess Kali is often known as Shyama, signifying black or dark, the festival is also observed in Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, and certain regions of Maharashtra. The festival signifies the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Ayodhya made history during the ‘Deepotsav-2024’ celebrations by setting two Guinness World Records.

The Ayodhya district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, illuminated the Saryu River with over 25 lakh diya, marking the largest display of oil lamps ever recorded. Another record was made for the most people performing ‘diya’ rotation simultaneously. (ANI)
