Gautam Gambhir recently addressed the media regarding the ongoing discussions about his relationship with Virat Kohli, remarking that such talks are “good for TRPs.” Known for their animated on-field presence, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have had several heated exchanges, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, in a recent IPL season, the two were seen hugging and shaking hands during a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
During a press conference ahead of India’s tour of Sri Lanka, Gautam Gambhir clarified that he shares a healthy relationship with Virat Kohli, whom he praised as a “thorough professional” and a “world-class batter.” Gautam Gambhir, a key player in India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, expressed his enthusiasm about working with Virat Kohli to enhance Indian cricket.
“Good for TRP. My relationship is not public. It’s a relationship between two mature individuals. On the field, I am sure we have got to be on the same page. I share a very good relationship with him,” Gautam Gambhir stated. “I have had a lot of chats with him, but sometimes. We shared messages. It’s not important what we discussed after my announcement or before my announcement. Just because we want headlines. He is a thorough professional, he is a world-class player. Hopefully, we can work together really well. Our job is to make the country proud together. We are representing more than a billion people. We have got to be on the same page.”
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have been part of several match-winning partnerships for India. Notably, in 2009, Gautam Gambhir handed over his Player of the Match award to Virat Kohli, who had scored his maiden ODI century against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka is set to begin on June 27 with a three-match T20I series, followed by an ODI series.
