Patna (Bihar) [India], July 26 (ANI): Former Bihar Minister Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday claimed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not return to power in the upcoming Assembly elections, asserting that “Uncle won’t become CM this time.”

Speaking to media persons, Yadav said his initiative “Team Tej Pratap Yadav” aims to directly connect with the people, and that he would support any party that focuses on youth, employment, education, and healthcare.

“Team Tej Pratap Yadav is a platform to reach the people… This time, Uncle (Nitish Kumar) will not become the Chief Minister. Whoever’s government is formed, if they talk about youth, employment, education, and health, Tej Pratap Yadav will stand with them with full strength. We will contest the election from Mahua; there are many opponents, they have started to feel the itch…” he said.

He also criticised Nitish Kumar’s recent promise to provide 125 units of free electricity per household, calling it an unfulfilled announcement.

Yadav said, it is just an announcement and no one has yet received free electricity.

Nitish Kumar had earlier announced that from August 1, 2025, around 1.67 crore households in Bihar would receive up to 125 units of electricity free of charge. The move is widely seen as an attempt to appeal to voters ahead of the polls.

Opposition leaders, including Tej Pratap Yadav, have raised questions about the implementation of the scheme.

Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.

While the NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again seek to continue its stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, comprising the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will aim to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates.

The Opposition’s INDIA Bloc comprises 111 members, with the RJD leading with 77 MLAs, followed by Congress with 19, CPI(ML) with 11, CPI(M) with 2, and CPI with 2. (ANI)
