Gautam Buddh Nagar:
The district of Gautam Buddh Nagar today witnessed the grand inauguration of National Road Safety Month-2026, organized by the Transport Department. The month-long campaign, running from January 1 to January 31, 2026, aims to reduce road accidents and raise public awareness about traffic rules and safe driving practices.

The event was inaugurated by District Panchayat Chairman Amit Chaudhary, who flagged off two dozen awareness vehicles. During the ceremony, officials, staff, and citizens took a pledge to adhere to traffic regulations, reaffirming their commitment to road safety.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Amit Chaudhary emphasized that following traffic rules is not merely to avoid fines but to safeguard one’s own life and the lives of others. He highlighted the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, praised the ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ initiative, and called for strict action against overspeeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

DCP (Traffic) Praveen Ranjan Singh outlined the district’s goal to become a ‘Zero Fatality District’ by coordinating efforts between the police and transport departments. He stated that continuous monitoring of overspeeding, drunk driving, and other traffic violations is underway to ensure safer roads.
ARTO (Transport) Dr. Udit Narayan Pandey presented the framework of activities planned for National Road Safety Month. He detailed schemes such as the ‘Veer Yojana,’ providing rapid assistance to road accident victims, the ‘Cashless Treatment Scheme’ for treatment without direct cash payments, and the ‘Hit-and-Run Scheme’ ensuring compensation for victims in cases of fleeing drivers. These initiatives aim to deliver timely relief and justice to accident victims.

The event was attended by Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jaislal, ARTO Vinay Singh, Passenger Tax Officer K.G. Sanjay, Divisional Inspector (Technical) Sanjay Gupta, driving instructors from the Motor Vehicle School, various departmental officials, and over 150 citizens.
Divisional Transport Officer (Transport) stated that the awareness vehicles will traverse multiple areas in the district, disseminating traffic safety messages, posters, and pledges to educate the public.

Officials urged all citizens to actively participate in National Road Safety Month and integrate road safety into their daily routines. Key recommendations included wearing helmets, fastening seat belts, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol. They emphasized that safer roads are essential for a secure and prosperous life.
The initiative underscores the district administration’s commitment to reducing road accidents, promoting responsible driving, and fostering a culture of safety on roads, ensuring that citizens remain vigilant and informed throughout the campaign.
