Noida:
The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has written a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, urging immediate and long-term measures to ensure drinking water safety and carry out urgent, permanent repairs of old and damaged sewer lines across the city. The residents’ body has expressed serious concern over the potential risk to public health arising from sewer leakages, particularly in older sectors of Noida.
Sharing details of the communication, FONRWA General Secretary K. K. Jain said that a recent incident in Indore has highlighted the grave consequences of negligence in sewer and water management systems. He pointed out that due to sewage leakage in Indore, contaminated drinking water was supplied to residents, leading to a major health emergency. The incident reportedly resulted in several deaths and left hundreds of citizens ill. Jain described the incident as extremely unfortunate and warned that it should serve as a serious wake-up call for all urban development authorities across the country.
He stated that while the Noida Authority generally follows necessary precautions during the supply of drinking water, sewer-related issues continue to pose a significant challenge, especially in the city’s older sectors. According to FONRWA, several areas are still plagued by outdated and damaged sewer lines, which are prone to frequent leakages. These leakages increase the risk of sewage mixing with drinking water pipelines, raising concerns about water contamination and the spread of waterborne diseases.
Jain acknowledged that the Noida Authority has taken corrective steps in some locations and resolved certain sewer-related problems. However, he emphasized that the situation in many sectors remains alarming and requires urgent attention. He noted that recurring complaints of sewer leakage indicate the need for a more comprehensive and permanent solution rather than temporary repairs.
In the letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, FONRWA has requested that old sewer lines prone to repeated leakages be replaced on a priority basis. The residents’ federation has also urged the authority to ensure the speedy and permanent resolution of all pending issues related to sewerage and water supply infrastructure. Jain stressed that preventive action is essential to avoid any future health crisis similar to the one witnessed in Indore.
Additionally, FONRWA has called for mandatory and regular testing of water supplied from every water tank in Noida. It has been suggested that water quality checks should be conducted both in the morning and evening during supply hours to ensure that residents receive safe and uncontaminated drinking water at all times. Jain said that systematic and routine water testing would help in early detection of contamination and enable authorities to take timely corrective measures.
The residents’ body underlined that ensuring safe drinking water is a fundamental civic responsibility and any lapse in this regard could have serious public health implications. FONRWA believes that proactive infrastructure upgrades, combined with strict monitoring of water quality, can significantly reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and safeguard the health of Noida’s population.
Jain concluded by stating that the implementation of these measures would help prevent any potential health disaster and strengthen public confidence in the city’s civic systems. He expressed hope that the Noida Authority would take the concerns raised by FONRWA seriously and initiate immediate action in the interest of public health and safety.
The letter reflects growing concern among residents over aging infrastructure in parts of Noida and reiterates the need for sustained investment in sewerage and water supply systems to meet the demands of an expanding urban population.
