Mumbai, August 19 : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team has seized 50 kg of gold and Rs 87 lakh by raiding RL Jewellers, an establishment of Ishwarlal Jain, a close aide of former MP and NCP president Sharad Pawar. Former MP Ishwarlal Jain has termed the seizure action taken by the ED illegal. Jain told reporters on Saturday that he would challenge the ED’s action in court.
According to the information, the ED team started simultaneous raids on Thursday morning on the establishments of RL Jewellers located in Jalgaon, Nagpur, and Nashik of Ishwarlal Jain. More than 60 officers and employees of ED were involved in this raid. The operation went on for more than 40 hours until Friday evening. After this, the ED team seized 50 kg of gold and Rs 87 lakh from the spot. It is being told that the ED team has recovered many documents from Nashik and Nagpur. It is being told that this raid was done in the case of a loan of Rs 525 crore taken from the State Bank of India. However, the official information about this raid has not been given by the ED yet.
Ishwarlal Jain told reporters on Saturday that the State Bank of India loan scam case has been registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). That’s why it is not a surprise to have ED action after this. Everything the ED team asked for was given to him, but what the ED seized was wrong and illegal. For this reason, they will challenge the action of ED in court.
