In a major economic and diplomatic development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced over $200 billion in new deals during his visit to the United Arab Emirates, deepening U.S.-UAE cooperation across sectors like aviation, energy, and artificial intelligence. The visit also marked a significant shift in AI collaboration, with both countries agreeing to a robust framework aimed at making the Gulf nation a global AI hub. Donald Trump’s regional tour across wealthy Gulf states has become a showcase of strategic partnerships and major business agreements.
AI cooperation and chip deal boost UAE ambitions
A major highlight of the trip was the announcement of the “US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership,” which outlines a bilateral plan to strengthen AI research, data center development, and technology sharing. The agreement includes the UAE investing in and building U.S.-based data centers that match the scale and power of those planned within its own borders. Crucially, this partnership grants the UAE access to import up to 500,000 of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips annually, a significant move given earlier U.S. restrictions over fears of technology diversion to China.
Donald Trump and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also jointly unveiled a new 5GW AI campus in the UAE—the largest of its kind outside the U.S. The deal contains strong commitments by the UAE to align its national security protocols with U.S. regulations to prevent misuse or diversion of American-origin technologies.
Massive investments across aviation and energy sectors
Among the headline deals was a $14.5 billion commitment from Etihad Airways to acquire 28 Boeing 787 and 777x aircraft equipped with GE Aerospace engines. Emirates Global Aluminum is set to invest $4 billion in building a primary aluminum smelter in Oklahoma. Further strengthening energy ties, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will partner with ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum, and EOG Resources in oil and gas projects valued at $60 billion.
Donald Trump’s tour, which also included stops in Qatar and possibly Istanbul, underscores a deepening strategic alignment between the U.S. and Gulf powers. In Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed personally received Donald Trump, and the two visited the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Key Indian airports—Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai), and Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru)—have also played supporting roles in ensuring logistical and security coordination for such high-level international engagements.
