In a recent escalation of conflict, an Israeli airstrike has killed a senior field commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan forces in south Lebanon. The deceased, identified as Habib Maatouk, had taken over the position from another commander who was killed earlier this year in a similar strike, according to two security sources.
The airstrike targeted the border villages of Safad El Batikh and Jmaijmeh, resulting in multiple casualties. Following the attack, 18 wounded individuals were admitted to the Tebnin government hospital, with two in critical condition, as reported by hospital director Mohammed Hamadi.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified since the latter declared a “support front” with Palestinians following the Hamas assault on southern Israeli border communities on October 7. This confrontation has resulted in significant casualties and destruction, reminiscent of the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war.
The clash has already claimed the lives of more than 100 civilians and over 300 Hezbollah fighters, according to a Reuters tally, leading to unprecedented levels of destruction in Lebanese border towns and villages.
