US President Donald Trump praised the killing of Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rufayi, also known as Abu Khadija, in Iraq on Friday, calling it a significant victory in the fight against terrorism. Trump celebrated the operation, claiming the ISIS leader’s “miserable life was terminated” as a result of the coordinated efforts between US forces, the Iraqi government, and the Kurdish Regional Government.
Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to commend the successful operation, stating, “Today the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed. He was relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters. His miserable life was terminated, along with another member of ISIS, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!”
This operation marks another blow against ISIS in the region, where the group has faced growing pressure from international forces and local governments. Abu Khadija was identified as one of the most dangerous figures within ISIS, responsible for numerous terror activities and fueling violence across Iraq. His death is seen as a crucial step toward diminishing the group’s influence.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also expressed his approval of the operation, congratulating the Iraqi people and international partners on the achievement. On social media platform X, he wrote, “Abu Khadija was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world. We congratulate Iraq, the Iraqi people, and all peace-loving nations on this significant security achievement.”
The Iraqi government has been actively working with international allies, including the United States, to dismantle ISIS operations and reduce the terror group’s presence in the region. This collaboration has proven vital in targeting high-profile ISIS leaders and dismantling the network’s leadership structure.
While ISIS has lost much of its territorial control since its peak in 2014, the group remains a persistent threat, with remnants operating across the Middle East. The killing of Abu Khadija is viewed as a significant success in this ongoing battle against terrorism. The US, in particular, has committed to working alongside local forces to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
This latest operation highlights the continued global efforts to combat terrorism, with both US and Iraqi forces remaining resolute in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats and secure a peaceful future for the region.
