In a significant moment marking the enduring partnership between Qatar and the United States, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani expressed his appreciation for the historic bond between the two nations during the launch of the 6th Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue on Tuesday. Held in the US capital of Washington, the event was hailed as a testament to the breadth of cooperation spanning defense, regional stability, and business endeavors.
Addressing the assembly, the Qatari leader underscored Qatar’s steadfast regard for the United States not only as a close ally but as a trusted partner and friend, highlighting the mutual benefits fostered by this relationship. He acknowledged the unprecedented challenges faced since the previous Strategic Dialogue, affirming the joint efforts between Qatar and the US as pivotal in confronting regional conflicts with confidence, transparency, and effective communication, ultimately leading to positive outcomes.
Amid ongoing crises, Prime Minister emphasized Qatar’s recent collaborative efforts with the United States and international allies to address the conflict in Gaza, advocating for a cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, and the provision of essential humanitarian aid. Expressing hope for a lasting ceasefire, the Qatari leader noted the strengthening economic ties between the two nations, with bilateral trade reaching new heights and the United States maintaining a significant role as a direct foreign investor in Qatar.
Significantly, this year’s dialogue introduced new sessions focusing on emerging global challenges, including discussions on technology, strategic policies, and communications. Notably, with the United States set to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, Qatar expressed its willingness to share experiences and insights to ensure a secure and inclusive environment for fans, both local and international.
Meanwhile, as part of the dialogue, Qatar and the United States engaged in a session on international affairs, led respectively by Qatari Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland. The session saw a fruitful exchange of views on various regional and international issues, including developments in Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Ukraine, and Latin America.
