Gautam Buddh Nagar, April 30, 2026:
The Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Gautam Buddh Nagar, Shivani Rawat, conducted an inspection and monthly visit to the district jail to review facilities and services provided to inmates. The inspection was carried out in compliance with the directions of the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority and under the supervision of the District Judge and Chairperson of the DLSA.
During the visit, jail authorities informed that a total of 2,514 inmates are currently lodged in the district jail. The Secretary interacted with inmates housed in the male barracks and gathered information regarding their ongoing cases. She also reviewed inmate records and examined case-related documentation to assess whether proper legal assistance was being provided.
Officials stated that the Secretary specifically inquired about the availability of legal aid and representation for inmates. In response, inmates confirmed that they had access to legal counsel, either privately arranged or provided through the District Legal Services Authority. Directions were issued to the jail administration to ensure that all inmate records are regularly updated and maintained accurately.
The inspection also included a visit to the jail hospital, where the Secretary interacted with inmates admitted for treatment in the general ward. She reviewed the medical facilities being provided and took feedback from inmates regarding healthcare services. Officials noted that the availability and quality of medical care within the facility were assessed to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
In addition, the Secretary inspected the prison kitchen to evaluate the quality of food being served to inmates. During the visit, inmates assigned to kitchen duties were seen preparing meals, including bread and lentils. The Secretary reviewed the food quality and directed the jail authorities to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen area.
The inspection covered overall arrangements related to inmate welfare, including legal aid, healthcare, and nutrition. Officials emphasized that such regular inspections are essential to ensure that inmates’ rights are protected and that facilities meet required standards.
Jail Superintendent Brajesh Kumar and Jailer Sanjay Sahi were present during the inspection and provided necessary updates regarding the functioning of the prison.
The visit reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to monitor prison conditions and ensure that inmates receive adequate legal support, medical care, and basic amenities in accordance with established guidelines.
