Gautam Buddh Nagar | March 16, 2026 — A review meeting of the District Plantation Committee, District Ganga Committee, and District Environment Committee was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
During the meeting, key issues related to environmental protection, tree plantation, and river conservation were discussed in detail.
Review of Tree Plantation and Geo-Tagging Progress
Divisional Forest Officer Rajnikant Mittal presented an update on the progress of tree plantation activities for 2025–26, including geo-tagging of plants, organisation of Green Chaupal programmes, plant survival rate, and conservation of ponds.
The District Magistrate directed that 100 percent geo-tagging of all planted saplings must be ensured, stating that it is a top priority of the government. Departments that have not yet completed the process were instructed to take immediate action and submit reports.
He emphasized that the plantation drive cannot be considered successful unless geo-tagging, verification, and survival of saplings are ensured.
The District Magistrate also instructed departments to complete land identification for the upcoming Tree Plantation Year 2026–27 at the earliest.
Action Against Illegal Encroachments
Reviewing the situation of illegal encroachments in notified areas of development authorities, the District Magistrate directed authorities to issue notices under Section 10 of the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Act, 1976 against such encroachments.
He expressed strong dissatisfaction over the absence of officials from development authorities during the meeting.
Measures to Control Pollution
During the review of environmental issues, officials were directed to take strict action against transportation of uncovered construction materials, overloading of vehicles, and incidents of garbage and stubble burning.
The District Magistrate instructed authorities and the Pollution Control Board to ensure strict compliance with guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and government directives to control air pollution.
Cleanliness of Rivers and Drain Management
While reviewing the work of the District Ganga Committee, the District Magistrate stressed that cleanliness of rivers must remain a top priority.
He directed the adoption of phytoremediation techniques, as per NGT standards, for interim treatment of untapped drains flowing into the Ganga and its tributaries.
The Irrigation Department was also instructed to provide updated information regarding solid waste disposal in rivers and drains.
Officials were asked to ensure regular cleaning of the Yamuna and Hindon riverbanks and to report progress on the beautification and conservation of ghats.
Wetland and Pond Conservation
The Divisional Forest Officer informed the committee about actions taken in compliance with National Green Tribunal orders, including listing of ponds, demarcation of boundaries, removal of encroachments, and status of pending cases.
The District Magistrate directed that all related information regarding pond conservation be submitted in the prescribed format within the stipulated timeframe.
