With the annual Republic Day parade rehearsals in full swing, the Delhi Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for the coming days to ensure smooth traffic flow in the national capital region. The Republic Day parade rehearsals, which are taking place along Kartavya Path, will see various roads being closed or restricted for traffic during specific hours. The special arrangements and restrictions will be in effect from January 17 to January 21, 2025. The Delhi Police has also taken into account the ongoing five-day Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which is being held in both New Delhi and Greater Noida from January 17 to 22. These simultaneous events have prompted the police to provide comprehensive traffic management guidelines to prevent disruptions.
As part of the traffic advisory, the Delhi Police has announced that certain intersections along Kartavya Path will face temporary restrictions from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM on January 17, 18, 20, and 21. These intersections include the Kartavyapath-Rafi Marg crossing, Kartavyapath-Janpath crossing, Kartavyapath-Mansingh Road crossing, and Kartavyapath-C-Hexagon. These restrictions are meant to facilitate the uninterrupted movement of the Republic Day parade rehearsals, ensuring that the rehearsals take place without hindrances.
In addition to the aforementioned road closures, the advisory outlines a number of alternative routes and diversions for commuters in various parts of the city. Motorists traveling from North Delhi to South Delhi, and vice versa, are advised to take the Ring Road, Sarai Kale Khan, I.P. Flyover, Rajghat, Lajpat Ral Marg, Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Attaturk Marg, or Kautilaya Marg. These diversions will help avoid congestion near the closed intersections and allow for smoother transit across the capital.
For travelers heading from East to Southwest Delhi, the advisory suggests using the Vande Matram Marg, while those heading towards Vinay Marg, Shanti Path, or New Delhi can use Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Roundabout RML, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, or Park Street-Mandir Marg. These routes are expected to help ease traffic flow and keep commuters away from the restricted zones.
The Delhi Police has also issued a reminder to motorists to follow traffic rules, remain patient, and adhere to the instructions provided by traffic police officers during this period. Commuters are urged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid any inconvenience caused by the traffic restrictions and diversions.
In addition to the Republic Day parade preparations, the national capital is also hosting the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which is scheduled from January 17 to 22. The event is being held at the Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, and at the India Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida. The Delhi Police has also taken this major event into account when creating the traffic advisory, ensuring that participants and visitors to the expo can reach their destinations without major disruptions.
As India gears up to celebrate its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, the rehearsals and final preparations for the Republic Day parade are taking place with heightened security and traffic management. The parade itself will begin at 10:00 AM on January 26 at Kartavya Path and is expected to be a grand spectacle. The theme for this year’s Republic Day is “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development), a fitting tribute to India’s rich history and its aspirations for progress.
With multiple events scheduled during this period, including the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Delhi Police’s comprehensive traffic advisory aims to ensure that both daily commuters and visitors to these major events can navigate the city efficiently. The advisory serves as a reminder to plan journeys ahead of time, take the suggested alternative routes, and be mindful of the temporary traffic restrictions in place to accommodate the Republic Day parade rehearsals and other important events happening in the capital.
