Former cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, and Gurkeerat Mann are facing complaints for making and posting a video on social media that mocks disabled individuals. The complaint was filed at Delhi’s Amar Colony police station by Arman Ali, Executive Director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People. The complaint also includes the name of Sandhya Devanathan, Managing Director of Meta India.
What Happened?
Recently, the Indian team defeated Pakistan to win the Legends Cricket Trophy in England. Following the victory, Harbhajan Singh posted a video on social media. In the video, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh are seen limping and pretending to be in pain to the tune of Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal’s song “Husn Tera Tauba Tauba.” Harbhajan captioned the video, saying that their bodies were aching after playing continuously for 15 days. The video quickly went viral, leading to backlash from users who labeled it as disrespectful to disabled individuals.
Harbhajan Removed the Video and Apologized
After the controversy, Harbhajan took down the video and issued an apology. He stated that neither he nor his friends intended to hurt anyone or any community. The video was meant purely as a joke.
Para World Championship Winner Mansi Joshi Also Objected
Following the video’s release, para-badminton world champion Manasi Joshi expressed her objection. In a long Instagram post, she wrote, “Responsibility is expected from cricket stars like you. Please do not make fun of people with disabilities. This is not a joke.”
