The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Saturday regarding Cyclone Asna, a deep depression over the Arabian Sea that has brought heavy rainfall to Gujarat. The cyclone is expected to move west-northwest over the northeast Arabian Sea and away from the Indian coast within the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD, the deep depression has been moving at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour, with coordinates placing it 250 kilometers west of Naliya in Gujarat, 160 kilometers south-southwest of Karachi in Pakistan, and 350 kilometers east-southeast of Pasni in Pakistan.
Ramashray Yadav, a scientist with the IMD, stated earlier that light to moderate rains are anticipated in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. He also noted that the regions of Kachchh have received heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, with Gujarat recording 882 millimeters of rainfall since June 1, which is 50% above the normal average. The Saurashtra and Kachchh regions have also experienced higher-than-normal rainfall.
Ramashray Yadav commented, “Kachchh has received very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours… Gujarat has received 882 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is 50% more than normal… Saurashtra and Kachchh regions have also recorded more than normal rainfall… Light to moderate rains are expected for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar today.”
On Thursday, a heavy rainfall warning was issued for the districts of Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch.
Amid ongoing flooding in Gujarat due to persistent heavy rainfall, the road connecting Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya in Jamnagar has been closed to traffic. Additionally, a portion of a small bridge on Sir PN Road was washed away by flooding, further impacting commuter movement.
