Chelsea have signed Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan until the end of the season.
The deal includes an obligation for Chelsea to purchase Jadon Sancho, 24, for between £20-25 million next summer.
Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United in a £73 million deal from German club Borussia Dortmund in July 2021 but has faced challenges at Old Trafford. He made 83 appearances over three full seasons but experienced a high-profile falling out with Manager Erik ten Hag, which led to him training away from the first team.
After rejoining Borussia Dortmund on loan in January, Jadon Sancho returned to Manchester United in the summer but has not been included in the squad for either of their Premier League games so far.
The last of his 23 England caps was earned in 2021, having been overlooked for the UEFA Euro 2024 and the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
‘Best Way Out of a Bad Situation’
For Manchester United, this deal represents the best way out of a challenging situation.
Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, Technical Director Jason Wilcox, and Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada have had to navigate a significant issue not of their making. Jadon Sancho had already fallen out with Erik ten Hag when these senior figures were appointed. The temporary resolution negotiated to include Jadon Sancho in pre-season training and the club’s tour of the United States allowed him to maintain his fitness and facilitated finding an alternative club for him.
The reality is that even before his very public dispute with his manager, Jadon Sancho had not lived up to the high expectations set for him at Manchester United.
