A serious cybercrime incident occurred in Noida, where a female IT engineer residing in Sector-82, Vivek Vihar, was defrauded of ₹24.86 lakh. The fraudster applied for an e-SIM in her name without consent, leaving her mobile inactive for four days.
The victim stated that the fraudster called her, assuring that her 4G SIM would be upgraded to 5G, promising faster and improved mobile and internet services. Trusting the call, she proceeded with the process, but soon her mobile stopped working.
The fraudster transferred ₹24.86 lakh from her bank account in eight separate transactions. The four-day mobile outage caused multiple inconveniences and significant financial loss for the victim.
Police said the fraud was a carefully planned cybercrime using e-SIM and mobile banking exploitation. The cyber cell is investigating, and authorities said that tracking such criminals is challenging due to their technical expertise.
The victim lodged a complaint at the local police station. Officials confirmed an ongoing investigation to identify the fraudster and track their location. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against cybercriminals.
Experts advised using two-factor authentication (2FA) for mobile and banking security. They also recommended verifying any unexpected calls or messages through official channels before taking action.
