In a shocking incident from Karnataka’s Raichur, a Class 3 student was allegedly beaten, tortured, and confined for three days at the Ramakrishna Ashram over the alleged theft of a pen. The boy, Tarun Kumar, endured severe abuse at the hands of the ashram in-charge, Venugopal, and his aides, as claimed by his family on Sunday.
Tarun Kumar, who stayed at the Ramakrishna Ashram, recounted the harrowing experience. “Two older boys and a teacher hit me. They hit me with firewood, and when it broke, they used a bat. They also caused cuts on my body,” Tarun described. He further revealed that he was taken to Yagdir and forced to beg for alms at a railway station, but he did not receive any money.
The physical and psychological torment left the young boy badly bruised. Authorities have since registered a case against the accused, including Venugopal and his assistants.
This incident has sparked outrage and concern over the safety and treatment of children in educational and religious institutions. It underscores the urgent need for stringent measures to protect children from such abuse and to ensure accountability for those responsible.
The local community and child rights activists are calling for a thorough investigation and strict action against the perpetrators to prevent such incidents in the future. This case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children and the paramount importance of safeguarding their rights and well-being.
