U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday urged Hamas to accept Israel’s ceasefire offer, which includes terms for releasing hostages. Antony Blinken’s call came during a particularly supportive scene outside his hotel in Tel Aviv, where he was greeted by crowds waving U.S. flags and expressing gratitude toward the U.S. for its support of Israel.

During his visit, Antony Blinken met privately with families of hostages, emphasizing that their release is central to U.S. efforts in the region. “There is a very strong proposal on the table right now. Hamas needs to say yes, and needs to get this done,” Antony Blinken stated, addressing the crowd that had gathered.

The Secretary of State also traveled to Jerusalem for discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who remains committed to continuing military actions in Gaza, particularly in Rafah. This comes despite U.S. calls for restraint and a focus on hostage negotiations.

In talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Antony Blinken reiterated the U.S. commitment to securing a ceasefire that would facilitate the return of hostages. Isaac Herzog echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of the hostages’ immediate return as a priority for the international community.
