New Delhi, 8 September: In what is considered to be the first electoral contest between the NDA and the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party has registered a massive victory.
In the by-elections held in a total of seven assembly seats spread across six states, the BJP confirmed its victory in two of them, the Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly seats in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, on Friday.
While the BJP’s Tafajjal Hossain won the Boxanagar seat, another candidate, Bindu Debnath, bagged the Dhanpur seat.
It is important to highlight that following these wins, the BJP’s representation in the 60-member Tripura assembly has increased to 33 seats. Their ally, the IPFT, holds one seat, while the opposition party, Tipra Motha, has 13 MLAs. The CPI (M) leads with 10 MLAs, and the Congress has three MLAs.
Results are awaited for the bye elections to other Assembly constituencies.
1. Assembly Constituencies: Dumri (Jharkhand) and Puthuppally (Kerala)
According to the early poll result on the Election Commission website, Yashoda Devi (AJSU Party) is leading from Dumri, Jharkhand, while Adv. Chandy Oomen of Congress can be seen pulling off a massive victory for the Puthuppally Assembly seat in Kerala.
2. Assembly Constituency: Ghosi (Uttar Pradesh)
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghosi Assembly constituency, the ruling BJP might lose its power as the early trend shows its candidate, Dara Singh Chauhan, trailing behind the Samajwadi Party’s Sudhakar Singh.
3. Assembly Constituency: Bageshwar (Uttarakhand)
While the BJP may lose its power in Ghosi, it may retain its seat in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand. The Bhartiya Janata Party fielded Parvati Das after her husband, Chandan Ram Das, passed away.
4. Assembly Constituency: Dhupguri (West Bengal)
Further, a tough fight can be seen between the BJP and the All India Trinamool Congress, with the BJP’s Tapasi Roy trailing just a few votes behind the TMC’s Nirmal Chandra Roy.
