The Bihar State Assembly passed a no-confidence motion against Speaker and RJD leader Awadh Bihari Choudhary. After this motion Nitish Kumar’s coalition (NDA) government secured 129 votes in favor during the trust motion, prompting opposition leaders to walk out.
Meanwhile, RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary lost his position as speaker after 125 members supported a resolution for his removal. Before the crucial floor test for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government, RJD MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi, and Prahlad Yadav were seen on the government’s side and seen supporting Nitish Kumar, dealing a blow to the Opposition. Tejashwi Yadav urged MLAs to remain in their seats during voting to avoid invalidation.
Previously aligned with the Mahagathbandhan, Nitish Kumar switched to the BJP’s support, becoming Bihar’s chief minister for the ninth time on January 28. The NDA coalition, including support from Hindustani Awam Morcha led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, prepares for a critical floor test. Meanwhile, Congress relocates its MLAs from Telangana to Deshratna Marg, Tejashwi Yadav’s former residence, amid concerns of poaching attempts. RJD legislators, along with Left counterparts, gather at Yadav’s residence, gearing up for a unified display of strength as they head to the Vidhan Sabha.
