Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique made headlines on Saturday as he officially joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), marking his departure from the Congress party just days earlier. Siddique’s move was greeted by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who warmly welcomed him into the NCP fold, presenting him with a garland adorned with the party’s symbol.
The veteran politician disclosed that he had been encouraged to join the NCP by party leader Praful Patel. Siddique further revealed that he had notified Congress leaders in Delhi about his decision to leave the party.
Addressing the reasons behind his departure from the Congress, Siddique likened his treatment within the party to being treated as a mere condiment in a dish. However, he affirmed his unwavering loyalty to whichever party he aligns with, promising to remain steadfast in his commitment to the NCP.
Upon joining the NCP, Siddique expressed gratitude towards Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare for extending a warm welcome. He recounted his meeting with Ajit Pawar facilitated by Praful Patel, which led to the decision of his formal induction into the NCP on Saturday.
“Now, it is done. Ab kya rona, jab chidiya chug gayi khet. It was done with dhol, not quietly. When you are not being listened to, you should move to the side…I have a lot to say, but someone should answer. I am sad but happy too. I am sad because I am not thick-skinned..,”Siddique said.
It is pertinent to note that, Siddique’s departure from the Congress party after nearly five decades dealt a significant blow to the organization. Siddique, in his announcement on Thursday, underscored his 48-year-long association with the Congress before tendering his resignation.
In his formal resignation statement from the Congress party, Siddique reflected on his extensive journey within the organization, expressing gratitude to all who had been part of it. While Siddique refrained from elaborating on his reasons for departure, he thanked those who had accompanied him on this political journey.
