Fabrizio Longo, the 62-year-old head of Audi’s Italian operations, tragically fell to his death while climbing Cima Payer in the Adamello mountains near the Italian-Swiss border. Fabrizio Longo, an avid mountaineer, was scaling the 10,000-foot peak when the accident occurred. According to reports from the New York Post, Fabrizio Longo was approaching the summit when he fell, and a fellow climber witnessed the fall and promptly alerted rescue teams.
Rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene and found Fabrizio Longo’s body 700 feet down a gorge. Despite being well-equipped with safety gear including steel cables and ladders, he was pronounced dead at the site. His body was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Carisolo for further examination. Born in Rimini, Italy, in 1962, Fabrizio Longo graduated with a degree in political science and began his career at Fiat in 1987. He honed his marketing expertise at Fiat before moving to the Lancia brand in 2002. In 2012, Fabrizio Longo joined Audi, where he quickly advanced to the role of director of Italian operations in 2013. His leadership helped Audi maintain its position as a leader in the premium automotive segment for 11 consecutive years.
Audi Italy expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting his significant contributions to the company. An Audi spokesperson highlighted Fabrizio Longo’s success and his positive impact on the workplace, describing him as a source of unwavering support and enthusiasm. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation also mourned his loss. Flavio Roda, the head of the federation, described Fabrizio Longo’s death as “a terrible loss” and extended condolences to his family and Audi Italia.
