In the ongoing paper leak scandal, Shobha Raika and her brother Devesh Raika, along with their father Ramu Ram Raika, have been arrested in connection with the leaked police exam papers. The scandal has rocked the state of Rajasthan and raised serious questions about the integrity of public service examinations.
Shobha Raika, who achieved a remarkable fifth rank in the 2021 police sub-inspector exams, and her brother Devesh, who secured the 14th rank, were both under scrutiny for their unexpectedly high scores despite being consistently underperforming students at their academy. Their father, Ramu Ram Raika, was a member of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) from 2018 to 2022, during which time the controversial exam was conducted.
The Special Operations Group (SOG), investigating the paper leak scandal, decided to retest all candidates from the 2021 exam who were undergoing training at police academies in Jaipur and Kishangarh. Shobha Raika’s poor performance in the retest—scoring only 24 out of 200 in Hindi and 34 out of 200 in General Knowledge—raised further suspicions about the validity of her initial scores. She had originally scored 189 out of 200 in Hindi and 155 out of 200 in General Knowledge.
During interrogation, both Shobha and Devesh confessed that their father had provided them with a handwritten question paper. The precise method by which Ramu Ram Raika obtained the question paper remains unclear, as does whether he was involved with a cheating syndicate or used his influence within the RPSC.
Additionally, Babu Lal Katara, another RPSC member implicated in the scandal, was arrested a year ago and has been brought out of jail on a production warrant. Katara, who was on the interview panel for the police exams, was reportedly involved in the paper leak from the RPSC. This revelation adds a further layer of irony to the scandal, as both Katara and Ramu Ram Raika, responsible for ensuring fair examinations, are now under investigation for the very breach they were meant to prevent.
The scandal has not only put a spotlight on the integrity of Rajasthan’s public service exams but has also led to political controversy. The paper leak allegations have stirred political debate, with accusations directed at both the BJP and Congress for allegedly using the appointment of commission members as a means to consolidate vote banks from marginalized communities.
The investigation continues, with the SOG examining all connections and methods used in the leak, as well as the political implications surrounding the scandal.
