In a brazen act of violence, 35-year-old Nadir Shah, a gym owner of Afghan origin, was shot dead in South Delhi’s posh Greater Kailash-1 neighborhood on Thursday night. The incident, which occurred in full public view, has shocked the capital and highlights the escalating gang violence in the city.
The chilling moment was captured by a CCTV camera, which shows Nadir Shah speaking to another man next to a couple of parked cars before the shooting occurred. At approximately 10:40 p.m., a man in a chequered shirt approached the pair and began firing indiscriminately. Nadir Shah’s companion fled the scene as the shooter continued to target Nadir Shah, who was struck multiple times. The attacker then hopped onto a motorcycle and escaped the area. Police reported that the shooter fired around six to eight rounds, with bullet projectiles and empty cartridges found at the scene.
Nadir Shah was rushed to Max Hospital by his friends but was declared dead on arrival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed the details, stating, “The attackers came on a two-wheeler, fired on him and ran away. He was immediately rushed to the hospital by his friends but was declared brought dead.”
The shooting has been linked to ongoing gang conflicts in Delhi. Rohit Godara, a close aide of Goldy Brar from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post. Godara’s post, which NDTV has been unable to independently verify, alleges that Nadir Shah was targeted due to his interference with their business dealings. The post included a warning to others who might obstruct their operations, stating, “If anyone else should dare to do the same, they will meet the same fate.”
In addition to his business ventures in Delhi, Nadir Shah also owned a business in Dubai and had several criminal cases against him. Reports suggest that he was known to have connections with senior Delhi Police officers and was allegedly a police informer.
The murder of Nadir Shah underscores the deepening crisis of gang-related violence in Delhi, where such incidents are becoming increasingly common. As investigations continue, the focus will be on unraveling the motives behind this targeted attack and addressing the broader issue of gang influence in the city.
