Adiba Anam, the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver from Yavatmal, Maharashtra, has defied all odds to become the state’s first Muslim woman IAS officer. Securing the 142nd All India Rank in the UPSC 2024 examination, she has proved that determination and hard work can overcome even the most challenging circumstances.
Adiba’s father, who was unable to pursue education due to his circumstances, worked tirelessly as an auto driver to support his family. Despite their humble background, he ensured that Adiba Anam’s education was never compromised. Growing up in the agrarian distress-prone Vidarbha region, which has been severely impacted by farmer suicides, Adiba Anam’s journey to success has been far from easy.
After completing her graduation, Adiba Anam moved to Pune to pursue her dream of becoming an IAS officer. A mathematics graduate who had consistently excelled in her academic pursuits, Adiba Anam faced several hurdles along the way. She struggled in her first two attempts at the UPSC examination, although she did reach the interview stage in one. However, she refused to give up and continued her preparations with unwavering resolve.
Adiba Anam’s perseverance paid off when she secured a position in the final list of UPSC 2024. Her achievement has garnered significant attention, especially from political and civil leaders in her home district. Former Maharashtra Minister Manikrao Thakre expressed his pride in Adiba Anam’s success, highlighting her determination and congratulating her for becoming Maharashtra’s first Muslim woman IAS officer. He also praised her as an inspiration for many young students, particularly those from marginalized communities.
The Yavatmal Police also congratulated Adiba Anam, alongside other successful candidates, for their impressive achievements. Bhiwandi East MLA Rais Sheikh shared his admiration for her journey, describing it as a remarkable testament to hard work, perseverance, and the support of her father.
Adiba Anam credits her success to the emotional and financial support of her parents, particularly her father, who ensured that her dreams never faced any barriers. As she embarks on her civil services career, Adiba Anam remains determined to give back to society, especially by working for the welfare of underprivileged communities and empowering girls through education.
