Administrative action has gained momentum in the Noida Authority regarding the long-pending underground cabling scam. An inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the role of three officials linked to the former Engineer-in-Chief case. The committee will examine procedural lapses, financial irregularities, and decision-making processes related to the project.
Sources indicate that the officials likely to face action include current General Manager (Water, Sewer, and E&M) RP Singh, along with officials Nizamuddin and Pramod. They are alleged to have played key roles in irregular approvals, violations of norms, and financial discrepancies during the execution of underground cabling works.
The underground cabling project was launched to eliminate overhead wires, enhance public safety, and improve the city’s urban infrastructure. The Noida Authority approved projects worth several crores for this purpose. However, complaints regarding inflated costs, poor quality of work, and irregular payments surfaced over time.
Authority records reveal that in several sectors, cabling work remained incomplete despite full payments being released. Allegations also include deviation from prescribed technical standards and lack of transparency in the tendering process. These concerns have now formed the basis of the renewed investigation.
The inquiry committee will scrutinize project files, technical approvals, payment records, and internal file notings. Statements from the concerned officials may also be recorded as part of the probe. Further departmental action will depend on the findings of the committee’s report.
Senior officials of the Noida Authority stated that irregularities and corruption at any level would not be tolerated. If the allegations are substantiated, strict disciplinary action may follow, including suspension, departmental proceedings, and possible legal action.
The revival of the case has created a serious atmosphere within the authority. The underground cabling scam has been under scrutiny for years, and multiple inquiries have taken place earlier as well. The fresh probe signals the authority’s intent to revisit unresolved cases and ensure accountability.
Residents’ welfare associations and civic groups have welcomed the move, stating that decisive action is necessary to restore public trust and prevent recurrence of such issues in future infrastructure projects.
The inquiry committee has been directed to submit its report within a stipulated timeframe. Once the report is submitted, the next course of action will be decided. For now, heightened vigilance prevails within the Noida Authority as the probe progresses.
