Poonch, 7 September : Two terrorists were killed as army troops foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
One body recovered, search for another is going on
While the body of one terrorist was recovered along with war-like stores, the search operation for another is going on, Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal informed.
He said the operation started as soon as the alert troops spotted two terrorists crossing the LoC towards the Indian side on the last intervening night in the Mandi sub-sector of Poonch.
Joint operation by army and police eliminates terrorists
“A joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and police immediately to intercept the terrorists. Hostile terrain, dense jungle, and a steep gradient were utilised by terrorists to bring down a heavy volume of fire on the troops,” the PRO said, adding both terrorists were eliminated.
It is pertinent to note that the encounter along the LoC comes just days after security forces gunned down a hardcore terrorist during an operation in the remote Gali Sohab village in the Tuli area of Reasi district.
On the basis of human input regarding the presence of two terrorists, a joint operation was launched by the J&K Police and Indian Army in Gali Sohab, in the Tuli area of Chassana, Reasi District. While the officials informed that one terrorist has been killed so far and efforts are on to neutralise the other. A policeman also sustained injuries during the gunbattle and was hospitalised later.
