Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 9 (ANI): Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu exuded confidence about winning all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh, adding that he has provided good governance.
“In the last 15 months, our government has taken decisions for the betterment of the people of the state and we are asking for votes based on our work. I hope that we win all the 4 Lok Sabha seats in the state,” Sukhu said while talking to ANI.
Earlier Chief Minister, while participating in the nomination event for Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, addressed a large crowd and criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and rebels.
Sukhu referenced the state’s response to the disaster last year and praised Vikramaditya Singh, the Minister of Public Works, for his dedicated efforts during the crisis.
“Vikramaditya Singh is the young hero of politics, and if he wasn’t in politics, he would be one of the top heroes in Bollywood. During last year’s disaster, Vikramaditya Singh, as the Minister of Public Works, did an excellent job and stood by those affected, Sukhu said.
Sukhu commented on the BJP’s attempt to bring actress Kangana Ranaut into politics, suggesting it was an act of desperation. He humorously remarked that former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur’s reliance on Kangana was like asking for a “one-month shooting date,” indicating that the move would likely fail. Sukhu likened this to Thakur’s previous “flop” political ventures, suggesting that the BJP’s latest efforts in Himachal Pradesh would meet the same fate.
“Kangana Ranaut has made a name for herself in the film industry, but Jairam Thakur brought her into politics forcibly. Out of fear of the Congress’s state in-charge Rajeev Shukla’s strategy, Jairam Thakur backed out of the election and instead fielded Kangana. Jairam Thakur only asked Kangana for a month’s shooting date. The movie’s name is ‘Kangana in Mandi’s Courtyard,’ but if the director is a flop, the film is bound to flop. Earlier in 2022, Jairam Thakur made a movie called ‘Rivaj Badalenge’ (Changing Traditions), but the people changed him instead. Then, on 27 February 2024, he made ‘Operation Lotus,’ but that movie also flopped. Hence, this time, too, the film by the flop director is destined to flop,” Sukhu said.
“On 27 February, Jairam Thakur even had a new coat tailored, which is now gathering dust with the tailor. In the assembly, Jairam Thakur said that even God couldn’t save this government, but God saved this government, and the six rebel MLAs now have to face re-election. This election is between dishonesty and honesty, and the Congress party has fielded candidates with a clean image. The Congress party did not give a ticket to a single tainted candidate,” Sukhu added.
He mentioned that Jairam Thakur was only the Chief Minister for Seraj and only developed that region. Other constituencies in Mandi were discriminated against.
“During the disaster, the state government helped all affected families like its own family. The most help was given to the leader of the opposition’s constituency, Seraj. Mandi is like his family, and he doesn’t discriminate while providing help. During the disaster, to help those affected, the government changed the rules, and the compensation for house damage was increased from 1.30 lakh rupees to 7 lakh rupees,” Sukhu said.
Sukhu said that with the people’s blessings, the state government will continue for three and a half years and keep serving the people. The party that stole a Rajya Sabha seat from Congress will undoubtedly be taught a lesson by the people, and all four Lok Sabha seats and six assembly by-election seats will go to the Congress party. After struggling all his life, he has reached the position of Chief Minister, and he knows how to fight and win battles. In the Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP bought six Congress MLAs who betrayed and deceived the party. To get the second instalment of the deal, these six MLAs wandered outside Himachal Pradesh for a month. Six tainted leaders who played with public sentiments will surely be punished.
The Chief Minister also discussed the Congress party’s initiatives to support the rural economy, highlighting increases in milk procurement prices, MGNREGA wages, minimum daily wage, and police diet money.
“The state government raised the procurement price for cow’s milk to 45 rupees and for buffalo’s milk to 55 rupees per litre. The increase in milk prices is just the beginning, and the state government is dedicated to strengthening the rural economy. The state government increased MGNREGA wages to 300 rupees, raised the minimum daily wage to 400 rupees, increased the police’s diet money from 210 to 1000 rupees, created schemes for widows, gave employees a 4% increase in dearness allowance, and is clearing their arrears. The current state government has taken strong action against corruption, closing back doors, leading to a revenue gain of 2200 crore rupees in one year. The current government has started a scheme to give women a pension of 1500 rupees per month. BJP leaders are constantly approaching the Election Commission to try and stop this scheme. He stated that the BJP is anti-women,” Sukhu said.
Earlier, congress candidate from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat Vikramaditya Singh filed his nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and party MP Rajiv Shukla on Thursday.
“Today, I have filed nominations from Mandi Lok Sabha seat in the presence of CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and party MP Rajiv Shukla. This fight is not against anyone, this fight is just for the development of Mandi. My focus is only going to be on the issues of development,” Vikramaditya Singh said after filling nominations.
Congress’s Himachal Pradesh in-charge Rajeev Shukla, state party president Pratibha Singh, and other Congress leaders were also in attendance at the event, voicing their support for Vikramaditya Singh.
The Mandi Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on June 1, in the seventh phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Himachal Pradesh has four Lok Sabha seats: Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, and Kangra. The BJP won all four seats in 2019. The elections to the four Lok Sabha seats of Himachal Pradesh and by-polls to the six assembly constituencies that fell vacant with the disqualification of six rebel Congress MLAs will be held on June 1.
