Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has issued a strong warning about the “some forces” in and outside India that are allegedly trying to undermine the country’s progress. Speaking at an event in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Wednesday, Dhankhar emphasized the need for unity to counter any attempts to disintegrate the nation or insult its institutions. He called for a collective effort to neutralize anti-national narratives and stated that such forces were unable to “digest India’s progress.”
“There are some forces in the country and outside which are unable to digest India’s progress. There is a well-planned effort going on to disintegrate the country, divide the country, and insult its institutions. We must neutralize, in togetherness, every anti-national narrative,” Dhankhar said, stressing that the nation’s rise was unstoppable.
The Vice President further emphasized that India had moved beyond being a nation with potential and was now on an unstoppable rise. “One thing is very clear, it cannot be said that India is a nation with potential, that stage is behind us. India is on the rise, and as I said, that rise is unstoppable,” he added.
This statement by Dhankhar comes amid growing political tensions in India. On Tuesday, opposition parties from the INDIA bloc submitted a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha, accusing him of being “extremely partisan” in conducting the proceedings of the Council of States. The motion was filed with the office of the Rajya Sabha Secretary General, PC Mody, and was a response to the alleged bias of Dhankhar in favor of the ruling party.
Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, criticized the Vice President for his actions and expressed that it was a painful decision for the opposition parties to submit the motion. However, in the interest of preserving parliamentary democracy, they felt it was necessary. “All parties belonging to the INDIA group have had no option but to formally submit a no-confidence motion against the learned Hon’ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the extremely partisan manner in which he has been conducting the proceedings of the Council of States,” Ramesh said in a post on social media platform X.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, also accused Dhankhar of acting like a “spokesperson of the government” for his personal gain. Kharge criticized the Chairman’s approach to the opposition, accusing him of preventing discussions on important issues and showing allegiance to the ruling party rather than the Constitution. “The biggest disrupter in Rajya Sabha is the Chairman himself,” Kharge stated.
