At least six people were killed, and 59 others were injured in a Russian strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack, launched from Russia’s Belgorod region, targeted five locations in Kharkiv, including a 12-story apartment building, as confirmed by Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov on Friday.
Among the victims was a 14-year-old girl, Oleg Synegubov reported, adding that 20 of the injured individuals are in either serious or critical condition.
“Occupiers killed a child right on the playground,” Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated in a message on Telegram.
Rescue teams and emergency personnel are currently at the scenes of the attacks, working to manage the aftermath, according to the State Service for Emergencies.
A video purportedly from the site, shared by Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, showed flames and thick black smoke billowing from the upper part of the building.
“Russians hit civilians again,” Andriy Yermak said in his Telegram post.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, is located approximately 35 kilometers from the Russian border.
