In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across the UK, a 20-year-old criminology student, Nasen Saadi, is accused of killing one woman and seriously injuring another in a knife attack on Bournemouth’s Durley Chine Beach. According to prosecutors, Saadi allegedly carried out the brutal act to satiate a disturbing curiosity about what it feels like to take a life.
The tragic incident occurred in May, as Amie Gray, 34, and Leanne Miles, 38, sat by a fire on the beach, enjoying the full moon and sharing stories. Prosecutors detailed how Saadi had meticulously planned his attack. Starting his pursuit in April, he researched potential locations before settling on Bournemouth, a beach in the south of England.
On the night of the crime, Saadi allegedly lingered near the promenade before launching his attack. Gray suffered ten knife wounds, including a fatal thrust to the heart, succumbing to her injuries on the beach. Miles endured around 20 stab wounds but managed to survive. Prosecutor Sarah Jones KC described the attack as savage and random, with Saadi chasing his victims as they tried to flee or divert his attention from each other.
“He left them on the sand to bleed to death while he disappeared into the shadows,” Jones told the Winchester Crown Court. The prosecutor suggested Saadi’s motivations may have included a desire to feel powerful or instill fear in women, driven by a fascination with true crime.
After the attack, Saadi allegedly discarded his weapon, changed his clothes, and attempted to conceal his involvement. Despite overwhelming evidence, including knives found in his home and witness testimonies, Saadi has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder.
The prosecution also revealed Saadi’s attempts to evade detection. He left Bournemouth the day after the crime and was arrested on May 28. Investigators discovered knives in his bedside drawer and hidden between a wall and wardrobe, further implicating him.
The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the dangers of violent obsessions and their potential escalation into real-life tragedies. As the trial continues, the public remains gripped by the horrifying details of a crime that has left one family mourning and another struggling to recover.
