Toyota is gearing up for the global unveiling of its latest electric vehicle (EV) on March 11. While the company has not officially disclosed the model’s name, industry reports suggest that it is expected to be the production version of the coupe-SUV inspired by the 2022 bZ Compact SUV concept. This new model will mark Toyota’s third all-electric offering, following the bZ4X and the recently launched Urban Cruiser EV, as part of the brand’s ongoing electrification strategy in international markets.
Toyota has ambitious plans to expand its electric lineup, with six new EVs expected to be introduced by 2026 globally. The teaser images and video released by Toyota provide a glimpse into the new e-SUV’s design, showcasing elements that stay true to the original concept. The vehicle features a sloping roofline, an extended bonnet, and a sleek rear lightbar, while the front incorporates Toyota’s signature ‘hammerhead’ design. The styling closely resembles the bZ3C fastback from China, leading to speculation that it could be a European-market variant, although Toyota has not yet confirmed this.
The new Toyota EV appears to be similar in size to the bZ Compact SUV concept, which positions it as a competitor to models like the Volvo C40 Recharge and Smart #1. The teaser video also suggests that the SUV will come equipped with all-wheel-drive (AWD) technology, enhancing its appeal in the EV segment.
Mechanically, the AWD variant is expected to feature dual motors on both axles, producing an output of 184 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. This version will likely be paired with a 61kWh battery, offering an estimated range of around 400km. Toyota is also expected to introduce an entry-level variant featuring a 49kWh battery and a single front-mounted motor delivering 144 bhp. Both versions are anticipated to support rapid charging of up to 150kW, making them competitive in the evolving EV market.
While Toyota has not yet revealed the interior details, the upcoming SUV is expected to share design cues with the Toyota C-HR. It is likely to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a raised center console, and a digital instrument cluster. Higher variants could offer premium features such as a panoramic sunroof and a JBL sound system, enhancing the overall driving experience.
As of now, Toyota has not confirmed whether this new electric SUV will be introduced in the Indian market. However, the company has already announced plans to launch the Urban Cruiser EV in India later this year, with pricing details expected to be revealed soon. Toyota’s increasing focus on electric mobility aligns with the global shift towards sustainable transportation, and the upcoming debut of this new SUV further strengthens its commitment to the EV segment.
