Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been denied permission to meet him at Tihar jail on Monday, according to claims made by Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Sources revealed that the Tihar Jail administration has cited the scheduled visit of Delhi Minister Atishi, who is set to meet the Chief Minister on Monday.
Furthermore, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to visit Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday. Tihar Jail rules stipulate that only two individuals are allowed to meet a detained person at a time.
During Bhagwant Mann’s previous visit to Tihar Jail on April 15, he was accompanied by AAP’s Organisation General Secretary, Sandeep Pathak.
Sources within Tihar Jail indicated that following the meetings with Atishi and Bhagwant Mann, Sunita Kejriwal may be permitted to meet Arvind Kejriwal after Tuesday. However, jail regulations dictate that only two visits can occur in a week. Therefore, if Atishi meets Arvind Kejriwal on Monday and Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday, no further meetings can take place with him during the week.
It is speculated that Sunita Kejriwal may only be allowed to meet her husband next week.
Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail since April 1, following his arrest on March 21 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. His time in Tihar has been embroiled in controversy over allegations that authorities withheld his diabetes medication. The Enforcement Directorate has also accused Arvind Kejriwal of consuming inappropriate food for diabetics.
Meanwhile, Sunita Kejriwal has taken an active role in politics, leading her maiden roadshow in Delhi on Saturday in support of the AAP’s East Delhi candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. With Arvind Kejriwal’s absence, she is expected to play a significant role in spearheading the party’s campaign across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.
