Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully neutralized three terrorists in two separate encounters along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, as part of ongoing anti-infiltration operations. According to the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, the first encounter took place in the Machil sector, where two terrorists were killed by security forces. The second encounter occurred in the Tangdhar sector, resulting in the death of another terrorist. These operations were launched based on intelligence inputs regarding possible infiltration attempts along the LoC.
On the night of August 28-29, a large-scale operation was initiated by security forces after reports of terrorist movement in the Tangdhar sector. Following this, another operation was conducted in the Machil sector when alert troops from the 57 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) spotted two to three terrorists in the area. Both encounters involved intense gunfire exchanges between the terrorists and security forces. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed that the operations are still in progress, with the security forces maintaining their vigil to prevent any further infiltration.
In a related development, a third encounter began in the Lathi village of Rajouri district, where three to four terrorists were believed to be hiding. Based on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a search operation in the general area of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal in Rajouri district around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. At approximately 11:45 p.m., contact was established with the terrorists, leading to a firefight between the militants and security personnel near the Kheri Mohra area. Tracer rounds were fired to illuminate the area, facilitating the ongoing search and combat efforts.
Security officials reported that two to three terrorists are still holed up within the cordon area, and additional forces have been deployed to reinforce the cordon and ensure that the operation proceeds without any further escalation. The ongoing encounters and operations in the region are part of the broader strategy to maintain security and stability in Jammu and Kashmir, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results of the elections are expected to be announced on October 4.
The recent encounters highlight the persistent threat posed by terrorist infiltrations along the LoC and underline the readiness of security forces to respond swiftly to such threats. The coordinated efforts between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police reflect a strong commitment to safeguarding the region from militant activities and ensuring the safety of its residents.
