On its second day at the box office, Amar Kaushik’s “Stree 2” has shown strong performance, continuing its impressive run after a record-breaking opening on Independence Day. The horror-comedy sequel, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, earned an estimated Rs 30 crore on August 16, bringing its total two-day collection to Rs 90.30 crore. The film recorded a 45.31 percent occupancy, with peak attendance during night shows.
Despite a drop in earnings from the opening day, the film has performed well compared to other major releases. “Stree 2” did not surpass the Rs 39.5 crore earned by “Fighter” on its second day, but it remains on track to become one of the top-earning Bollywood films of 2024. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh praised the film, noting that it defied pre-release expectations and emerged as the biggest opener of the year, despite competition from Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham’s “Vedaa.”
Adarsh highlighted the film’s strong performance in urban areas and predicted even greater success if it had been released solo. The film also features Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi in significant roles and continues the story from the 2018 hit “Stree.”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta commented on the film’s success, emphasizing that it should not be credited to any single actor. He praised the collective talent behind the film, including Rajkummar Rao, director Amar Kaushik, writer Niren Bhatt, and the entire ensemble cast. Mehta described “Stree 2” as a triumph for Indian mainstream cinema, highlighting its exceptional writing and direction.
“Stree 2” is expected to see strong box office earnings over the weekend and continue its successful run into the following week, buoyed by the Rakshabandhan holiday in some regions.
