New Delhi, 6 September (HS): Arun Kumar Sinha, director of the Special Protection Group (SPG) guarding the Prime Minister, died at the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on Wednesday at the age of 61. He was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to a liver problem.
On May 30 this year, just a day before his retirement, Singh was given a one-year extension. He took over as director of SPG in 2016. The 1987 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre was in charge of the Prime Minister’s security wing.
Sinha, who hails from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, started his career as an assistant superintendent of police in Wayanad, Kerala, in 1989. He served as the Thiruvananthapuram City Commissioner for about four years, from 1997. From 2009 to 2014, he served as IG in the Border Security Force in the Gujarat sector. On his return to Kerala in 2014, Sinha was posted as Additional Director General of Police at the State Police Headquarters. In March 2016, he was appointed as the 12th Director of SPG. He was to serve till May 31, 2024.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled Singh’s death, saying he was an efficient officer who handled many responsibilities in the state police.
