Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher currently incarcerated in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act, has declared assets worth Rs 1,000 in his poll affidavit.
Contesting as an Independent from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib seat, Amritpal Singh, 31, filed his nomination papers through his uncle in Tarn Taran district. He submitted his papers from jail on Thursday.
His affidavit reveals a mere Rs 1,000 bank balance at an SBI branch in Baba Bakala, Amritsar, with no other movable or immovable assets.
Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandip Kaur possesses movable assets valued at Rs 18.37 lakh, including cash, gold jewelry, and funds in a UK account.
With a matric qualification, Amritpal Singh faces 12 pending criminal cases but claims no convictions. He and his associates have been detained since April 23, 2023.
Amritpal Singh, known for Khalistan sympathies, evaded capture in Jalandhar last year, following clashes with police over the release of an associate.
