The Bombay High Court has intervened in the alleged custodial death case of one of the accused in actor Salman Khan’s home firing incident. Anuj Thapan, arrested in connection with the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence, was found dead in police custody on May 1.
The court has instructed the preservation of CCTV footage from the Mumbai crime branch where Anuj Thapan was detained, along with the call data records of concerned police officials. Anuj Thapan’s mother filed a petition in the high court alleging foul play and demanding a CBI investigation into her son’s death.
During the hearing, the Additional Public Prosecutor stated that a magistrate’s inquiry is underway, with the state CID handling the investigation. However, no FIR has been registered yet, and the probe is currently based on an accidental death report. The court has requested a status report on the inquiry’s progress.
While the advocate for Anuj Thapan’s mother urged for an immediate FIR registration and a CBI transfer, the court emphasized the need for a thorough understanding of the current investigation status before deciding on further action.
The case stems from an incident on April 14 when two individuals fired outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence. The crime branch arrested 6 suspects, including Anuj Thapan, while 2 others remain wanted in connection with the case.
