On Sunday night, two individuals were arrested by the Delhi Police after allegedly firing gunshots outside a cafe in the Satya Niketan area of southwest Delhi. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument over seating arrangements at the establishment. The arrested men, Ahmed (26) and Mangal (26), were taken into custody following a brief chase by the police.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit Meena, the South Campus police station received a call about the shooting at around 9 p.m. The police arrived at the scene promptly, apprehending one of the suspects after pursuing him. The incident occurred at a cafe where the owner, identified as Rohit, had a confrontation with a group of men who had arrived for dinner around 8:30 p.m.
The dispute began when one of the men sat at a glass table, which the cafe owner objected to. The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument. The situation worsened when additional men arrived, leading to a physical altercation. During the fight, one of the men reportedly fired a shot into the air outside the cafe.
Following the incident, the police registered a case and are continuing their investigation. The authorities have identified the suspects as being from Jahangirpuri, who were in the area to celebrate a birthday. The DCP indicated that further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
The shooting incident highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining public safety in densely populated areas and underscores the importance of resolving disputes peacefully to prevent such violent outbursts. The Delhi Police have assured that all involved parties will be held accountable, and additional measures will be taken to ensure the safety of residents and businesses in the area.
