Apple is set to significantly ramp up its iPhone production for 2024, with a strategic focus on its Pro and Pro Max models. According to recent reports from GSM Arena, the tech giant plans to manufacture approximately 90.1 million iPhones in the coming year. This figure marks a slight increase from the previous year’s target of 86.2 million units.
The upcoming production strategy reflects a notable shift in focus towards higher-end models, particularly the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Production plans for this model are set to reach 33.2 million units, which constitutes 37 percent of the total production mix. This is a substantial increase from last year’s production of 24.2 million units of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro is also slated for a significant production boost, with plans to manufacture 26.6 million units. This accounts for 30 percent of the total iPhone 16 production and represents an increase from the 21.8 million units of the iPhone 15 Pro produced last year.
In contrast, the non-Pro variants will see a more modest production increase. The standard iPhone 16 is expected to see a rise to 24.5 million units, up from 21.8 million units of the iPhone 15 produced last year. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Plus will experience a reduction in production, with only 5.8 million units planned compared to 8.5 million units of the iPhone 15 Plus from the previous year.
This strategic shift towards the Pro and Pro Max models highlights Apple’s response to evolving market demands and consumer preferences. Higher-end models typically command higher profit margins, aligning with Apple’s goal to capitalize on the growing consumer interest in premium smartphones.
The iPhone 16 series is anticipated to be unveiled on September 10, 2024.
